Some Notable Projects
 |
Digital Rights Management / Secure
Document Publishing & eCommerce |
Worked on the development and deployment of
a complete system to securely sell, administer, and support the sales of
digital Sheet Music for
SheetMusicNow.com. This very comprehensive system allowed
copyright holders to sell their Sheet Music safe in the knowledge that
their intellectual property would not be easily Napsterized.
 |
High-volume Digital Image Acquisition,
Cleanup and Packaging |
We developed a complete application that
allowed SheetMusicNow to scan high volumes of music sheets from archive
books. This system provided automated cleaning of random dots from
the images, normalized them to a common size and format, allowed
compilation of separate page images into multipage documents (for complete
scores or parts, for example), and publication onto the eCommerce system.
Also created a system to process large volumes of PDF files into TIFF
image files.
 |
Automated Management of Time-sensitive
Web Documents |
Developed a complete system that allows
non-technical users the ability to easily update content within
existing web pages using email or FTP or commercial applications.
The system automates the retiring of stale information on a website, and
automatically tracks when updates are made to time-sensitive info pages
and sends out alarms if updates are not made.
This system is currently used in our Menu-Minder service.
An example of this can be seen in use at the
Springfield Restaurant Group.
Check out the
Daily Specials at one or more of the restaurants.

Nationwide Wireless Data and Wireless
Instant Messaging systems |
We were deeply involved with the fledgling
personal wide-area wireless industry, with prototyping, application &
consulting support of the Motorola Envoy product (based on General Magic's
technologies), wireless gateway systems, and content development &
deployment. We worked intensely with the countries first nationwide
wireless service, RadioMail, which was a combination of wireless email /
instant messaging deployed on small portable devices (such as the
venerable HP200 palmtop.)
 |
Email / Telephone / Wireless integration
(Unified Messaging) |
Development of a completely integrated
telephony system that provided telephone access to your email allowing you
to not only listen to your email using text-to-speech technology but to
reply to emails by attaching your voice message to the reply email. This
worked pretty well, much to everyone's surprise, by the way, since using
phones for this kind of thing is a bit, well, clumsy. This led to the
development of a global email-based voicemail system, which was pretty
interesting as well. We did a lot of development with text-to-speech and
email applications, and telephone gizmos in general. We also developed a
comprehensive provisioning and support system for Notify Corporation's
Auto Attendant system.
 |
Robotics & Automation |
Part of the systems development team for
the one of the countries first fully automated dock-to-dock manufacturing
facility. This facility was developed in Dallas, Texas (well,
Carrollton, actually) in 1984-85 for Apple Computer, Inc. to manufacture
Apple ][c computers.

Real-time Unix Manufacturing Systems |
Customer applications consulting and
customer support for Motorola's Computer X group. Real-time Unix
system cXos used in many diverse manufacturing and high-speed testing
scenarios.
